AMT = Auron Misheil Therapy: Modified chamomile-extract therapy. Daily, a combination of nine herbal and synthesized components with anti-tumor effect is applied intramuscular. An immunogenicity effect is assumed, but the accurate effectiveness is still unknown. AMT is suitable for improving life quality of patients. A reduction of pain, an increase of appetite and weight plus a boost of efficiency are achieved in the framework of healing processes. In particular cases anti-tumor effects can be achieved.

Angiogenic factors: The tumor discharges substances to allure blood vessels, which feed him. The meaningfulness of an antiangiogenenic therapy can be deduced this way.

Camino de Santiago: One of the world´s most known pilgrimage. For 1000 years, pilgrims hike to the grave of the apostle James in the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela. The Way of St. James in this case runs largely on the first half of the 11th century Camino Francés, the high medieval main traffic artery in northern Spain, which leads from the Pyrenees to the Atlantic. Since 1993, this major route is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Chamomile therapy: → AMT

Chemotherapy: Treatment of malignant tumors using special chemical substances (-> cytostatics). These substances inhibit the growth of proliferation of cancer cells and can be used in variety of cancers such as breast, colon or lung cancer. Particularly useful is such a treatment in cancers such as lymphoma or leukemia in which the cancer cells spread throughout the body. Chemotherapy can have significant impact on physical conditions of patients and affect their quality of life by side effects like nausea or hair loss.

CT = computer tomography: A computerized method of -> diagnostic imaging. By means of a X-ray tube, a fan beam is generated, which is to varying degrees weakened by the structures of the examined body part. This procedure provides the CT compared with simple radiographs a higher contrast resolution. The recorded amount of data is processed by a computer into two or three dimensional sectional images.

Cytostatics: Drugs that harm the growth of malignant tumors or prevent entirely. Cytostatics are used due to this property in tumor therapy -> (chemotherapy).

Diagnostic imaging: different apparative analytical methods are summarized under this generic term. Those equipments provide two- or three-dimensional image data and are used for diagnoses of change of structures in the human body, which are caused by illnesses.

Diflunisal-therapy: Novel therapeutic approach to control tumors and metastases. Based on the realization that cancer cells have an extra-cellular acidic environment, these are attacked specifically by pH-sensitive substances (-> Salicylic acid derivative). The possible side effects of a chemotherapy are not to be expected in this form of therapy.

EKG = electrocardiogram: Standard examination of cardiology. Headed heart attacks, arrhythmia or ametrohemia can be diagnosed by the electric current curve recording on the heart.

Endoscopy: Medical examination, with which you can investigate without major surgery body cavities, detect and treat diseases. The endoscope used therein with illumination device and camera is inserted under local anesthesia in the patient´s body. Endoscopic procedures are usually associated with lower physical activity and shorter recovery times for the patient.

HCT = Health Centre Tübingen: In 2012, the health centre Tübingen was opened. It is a highly modern building complex in the university town of Tübingen. Everything revolves around the theme of health in nine-storey property. It is home to the Centre for outpatient rehabilitation (ZOR), the University Hospital Centre of Physiotherapy (UHCP), a Division of Sports Medicine and Sports Orthopaedics and for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy, an outpatient clinic, a guest house with a restaurant and several shops. -> Unifontis is located on Level 9 of the Health Centre Tübingen.

Hyperthermia: The term hyperthermia (Greek: overheating) is understood to be a treatment method, in which the body or individual body parts are overheated aware through the use of ultrasonic or electromagnetic waves. By this treatment cancer cells should be destroyed and and tumor should be made more vulnerable for chemo- or radiotherapy.

Integrative oncology: Part of the so-called holistic medicine. Integrative oncology combines different methods of conventional medicine, psychotherapy or naturopathy in the treatment of cancer and tumor diseases. In terms of individual treatment of patients, an adjusted to the personal situation of the patient treatment plan is compiled from a variety of therapies.

Lektinol: Active ingredient of highly purified mistletoe - the proportion of mistletoe has its own anti-tumor activity in the petri dish. To support other methods of cancer treatment and complementary mitigate any adverse of chemotherapy or radio treatment, Lektinol is inserted during the mistletoe therapy.

Main-trac method: In Jena developed method for quantification of circulating, epithelial cancer cells in the blood. These are cells that enter the malignant tumors into the bloodstream, which then can form metastases in other organs. With the main-trac method can be checked, if drugs (-> cytostatics) used during a chemotherapy, can affect on the circulating blood tumor cells. Due to the decrease in the number of tumor cells in the blood compared to the start of treatment, the effect of the treatment is proved. For this reason, a performance review of the applied therapy is already possible during the treatment. By main-trac method, the effect of drugs used during the chemotherapy, can be tested on the tumor cells before treatment initiation. Thus, an individually tailored to the needs of each patient´s choice of the drug can be ensured.

Metastases: Metastasis of cancer cells from the primary tumor, also called secondary tumors.

Micronutrient-methods: Is addressed at weak patients by chemotherapy and radiotherapy, who suffer from a lack of essential vitamins and trace elements. After a careful examination, an individual combination of micronutrients is compiled for each patient. Thereby, the resistance of the body is strengthened, which can shorten recovery periods after chemotherapy itself. Verifiably, the targeted medication of micronutrients can significantly reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Mistletoe therapy: Method of complementary cancer medicine. It can be used for the dilution of side effects of aggressive therapies, to improve the general well-being and to increase the compatibility with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Exclusively preparations with a high proportion of Lektinol are used.

MRT = Magnetic Resonance Imaging: Procedures of diagnostic imaging that without the use of X-rays, allows a detailed representation of the layers of tissue inside the body as well as an assessment of pathological changes.

MR/PRT: Combination of PET and MRT. The examination time is reduced, but also a reduction of in radiation is achieved through this innovative method. With this technology, malignant tumors and metastases can be detected at an early stage, characterized explicit and their position to the organs can be assigned secure.

Neural therapy: Method from the field of regulation therapy. By injecting a local anesthetic into organs, muscle or nerve fibers, disturbances of the autonomic nervous system can be influenced positively.

Oncology: Science branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and aftercare of cancer.

Operation diagnosis: Belongs to the entrance examinations of Unifontis. Prior to the creation of an individual treatment plan, the body´s functioning and the current status are determined with the help of ultrasound (EKG) and endoscopy.

Oxidative stress: Refers to the metabolic condition between oxidants and antioxidants. There is a constant imbalance in favor of oxidation. The resulting lack of vitamins and trace elements can be countered fought with a micronutrient process, offered by Unifontis.

Pathogenesis: Describes the emerge of a physical or mental illness or the progression of a pathological process up to the disease.

PET = Positron Emission Topography: Procedure of diagnostic imaging, in which metabolic processes in the body ca be illustrated three-dimensional.

PET/CT: Combination of PET and CT. Even the smallest cancer foci can be detected through this innovative process, because image information of the PET to the metabolism and the CT to structure compliment each other optimally. Because of these advantages, the PET/CT plays a major role in modern cancer screening and cancer diagnostics.

Q10: The body´s own coenzyme has structural similarities to the vitamins E and K, and is instrumental in the respiratory chain of the human metabolism. It regulates the adequate supply of of body cells with oxygen and energy. When combined with 13 vitamins, 25 minerals and trace elements, L-carnitine and phytochemicals, Q10 is part of the individual micronutrient process.

Salicylic acid derivative: An anti-inflammatory drug. The most important part of the -> Diflunisal therapy

Salutogenesis: Science of the origin and maintenance of good health.

siRNA therapy: One type gene therapy, in which special mechanisms of tumor cell (growth, attracting of blood vessels, attracting of lymph vessels ,...) can be inhibited specifically in within in the cell. Prof. Dr. med Joachim Drevs has conducted a therapy for first-time applications of the therapy in humans. In Freiburg and Herne are currently recent studies on the application of siRNA therapy in pancreatic cancer under way. Prof. Drevs is responsible for monitoring these studies.

Therapy sensitivity test: Method that maintains the side affects of a chemotherapy as low as possible for the patient. The efficacy of various cytostatics, tyrosine kinase inhibitors, and anti angiogenesis factors or herbal preparations will be tested against the tumor cells. The respective findings allow predictions about the effectiveness of different anti tumor therapies and form the basis of a individualized therapy (-> integrative oncology).

Tyrosine kinase inhibitors: Drugs from the group of targeted therapeutics. Are used for therapy of malignant tumors. In this case, the surface properties of tumor cells are used as target structure.

Unifontis: Practice for Integrative Oncology under the direction of Prof. Dr. med Joachim Drevs. Unifontis was founded in 2011, the practice with 16 employees is in the Health Centre Tübingen (-> HCT).

UHT = University Hospital Tübingen: The University Hospital of Tübingen was founded in 1805 and has since then established itself as one of the leading centers of German university medicine. In two clinic areas, 17 clinics and 12 multidisciplinary centers are 67.000 inpatients and 330.000 outpatients treated annually.
